The Forced Perspective Photo Opportunity! - Original: 2048x1536, 1.2MB

 Information:

One of the most fun things that the exhibition has to offer is the opportunity to have your photo taken on a replica of Gandalf's Cart - albeit one which split down the middle into two sections, suitable for splicing back together in real-time to provide you with your very own personal image of you and a friend sitting on Gandalf's Cart sailing through Hobbiton! The only peculiar thing is that the technique being demonstrated is expressly not the one used for this scene in the film - where forced perspective was actually employed in a very unique cart whose bench was split into a far-section (where Elijah Wood sat) and a near-section (where Ian McKellen sat). This exhibition piece instead relies on the bench being split in two, and placed equally close to two digital video cameras - from which the two images are spliced, blended and finally printed for your very own photo in real-time. It's very fun, though - look for a photo of Leo and me (Arathorn) tomorrow when we've had a chance to scan it!
