The folks from Cinefex write:

Want to know all about the visual effects in The Return of the King? The design and creation of Shelob? The depictions of Minas Tirith and other Middle-earth settings? How Gollum was revised and improved for the current film? The magic behind the mayhem of the Pelennor super-battle? And the Fellowship's final assault on Mount Doom and the forces of Sauron?

Cinefex, the quarterly film magazine devoted exclusively to visual effects, has announced that much of its winter issue will be devoted to The Return of the King. Having already published more than 100 pages of text and photos on the first two installments of The Lord of the Rings, Cinefex will complete its comprehensive coverage with a 48-page, scene-by-scene article on the effects work in The Return of the King, plus an exclusive 7-page interview with director Peter Jackson. Culled from nearly 60 in-depth interviews with key contributors, the Cinefex article will provide detailed information on production design, makeups, models and miniature work, plus the animation and digital effects responsible for so many of the film's memorable moments. Enhancing the text will be 60 color photos ranging from behind-the-scenes images to finished frames from pivotal effects shots.

The issue -- timed to coincide with the film's release on December 17 -- will be available for purchase in major bookstore chains such as Barnes & Noble and Borders, as well as numerous other outlets. Pre-orders are now being accepted. Visit www.cinefex.com for details.
