Gandalf and Pippin face down a Nazgul - Original: 854x363, 153kB

 Information:

Gandalf and Pippin, riding on Shadowfax, stand off against a Nazgul (possibly the Witch King) in Minas Tirith. It's interesting to ponder just how much is CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) in this shot - whilst the environment is almost certainly a bigature, the shading of Shadowfax's haunches and the cloth of Gandalf & Pippin's cloaks is slightly reminiscent of the matte shader we've grown familiar with in Gollum - and the horses in the charge out of Helm's Deep on the morning of the 5th day. The Nazgul steed itself is obviously CGI - and quite possibly the Nazgul too - and the fire in the background is without question a composited layer in the plate - so is it too much to suggest that this shot is almost entirely computer generated? - Arathorn
